Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe this week appointed PLS (Print Logistic Services) as the first beta-testing site in Europe for the KM-1 inkjet press.  Based in Germany, PLS is a subsidiary of the American company OvernightPrints.

 

Based on UV-cured inks and the latest printheads from Konica Minolta, the B2+-format KM-1 has been designed to help printers expand their range of services.  This machine will help them penetrate both offset and digital markets and offers productivity of up to 3,000 sheets per hour.  The use of UV-curable inks allows the KM-1 to be more productive but, crucially for the quality of print onto a very wide variety of media to be extremely high - and for the finished print products to be handled immediately and more easily.  

 

According to PLS, this machine has three major advantages: better use of paper (no need for special stocks for a finish of a quality at least equal to that of offset); better integration with workflow software; and less waste than using offset.  PLS's average job is of 160 sheets.  Using offset technology, PLS typically waste some 70 to 150 sheets per job - against 5-10 with the KM-1.

The first beta-test site for the KM-1 was in the United States.  The machine will be properly and officially launched at the Drupa show in Düsseldorf, Germany which runs from May 31 to June 10 2016.
