Awards 2025: Outstanding Scanners on an A4 MFP

The scan function on an office copier is at least as important as its print engine. The winners of this award process and deliver excellent scan quality fast, with an optimal file-size/image-quality ratio.

All of these colour A4 MFPs by HP Inc are extremely versatile scanning devices. In tests in our independent lab in Rennes, France, the DataMaster Test Team found that their document feeders are fast, they are delivered with excellent onboard optical character recognition as standard, and they can handle very long originals. They produce high-quality images with small file sizes. In common with other HP Inc products, compact (high-compression) PDFs are of very high image quality, compared to many competing devices, but are still small: the filesize/image-quality ratio is optimised.  

The large interface is responsive, well laid out and easy to use. Complex jobs require very few keystrokes. We found the virtual keyboard to be better than most.

Processing times are very good, often taking just a few seconds to process complex jobs that other machines labour over for over 5 minutes. If the optional accelerator card is fitted (which is easily achieved), processing times, especially for OCR, are improved still further, by up to 75%. Not all customers have high volumes of original to scan to text, so the accelerator card is a useful, optional feature. Output to RTF renders files which resemble the originals very closely – even tables.
