Awards 2025: Best A4 Work Group Multifunction Printer

This award recognizes A4 MFPs which have all the features of the traditional A3/Ledger office copier, and perform well in all our productivity, quality and usability tests.

The Epson WorkForce Enterprise AM-C400 and AM-C550 colour A4 multifunction printers are easy to use, compact, highly productive office machines delivering excellent print and scan quality.
They have Epson PrecisionCore heat-free inkjet print motors with exemplary environmental credentials:  they use much less electricity than competing machines, and require less maintenance too.  They are extremely reliable, requiring only a third as many service visits as most of their competitors.

In the DataMaster test lab they proved that they have extremely short first-page-out times, and can print as fast onto both sides of the sheet as onto single sides, an important feat of productivity which many competing A4 printers cannot match. This means less paper gets used, the best way to reduce the carbon footprint of printing. They performed well in our “busy office” tests: they can RIP, print and scan at full speed all at the same time. This is key for work groups. These MFPs can process multiple print jobs without pausing, and a user can scan at the same time without impacting the productivity of any of these tasks. Few competing machines can do this either.  

Epson AM-C machines’ scan processing times (OCR, high compression) are extremely short, taking just a few seconds to deliver what most competing machines take five minutes to do. Coupled with Epson Document Capture Pro scan management software, they have more features than any competing MFP, and can run complex scan jobs from the interface.

Print quality onto normal office paper is excellent. They can print extremely fine lines and tiny characters without defects. Colour balance, resolution and contrast in photographs are excellent. Scan quality is also exceptional, with an optimal quality/file-size ratio and output to MS Office formats.
