Sharp terminates copier division merger talks with Samsung

30 August 2013

Sharp dealers all over the world can breathe a sigh of relief today as the manufacturer has ended talks with the South Korean manufacturing giant Samsung about setting up a joint copier manufacturing and distribution company.

According to Kyodo News, this decision has been taken partly in response to concerns raised by other Japanese firms such as Canon about the sharing of key technology with the South Korean firm.

It would also appear to be a sign of renewed confidence at board level at Sharp Electronics.  As Samsung continued to buy shares in Sharp Electronics talk of joint copier production was rife just a few months ago.
